During my teen years I worked with a Great Dane Rescue group and became involved working at a local boarding/breeding kennel. During this time I was responsible for helping whelp and raise many litters of puppies, teach group classes and work with rescue dogs to help them become more adoptable. During this time I was also showing dogs competitively and worked for two Breeder-Handlers who mentored me both in dog breeding, handling, and care.
When I was 19 I began work as a trainer at police/sport dog kennel where I was working primarily with high-drive working breeds. This is where I became more involved in sport dog training and competitive Obedience. At the age of 21, I moved to Orange County and began working at a purely-positve based training company where I trained boarding dogs, did private training lessons, and taught several group classes. I started my own training company (OC Dog Lady) in 2007 and have been serving the Orange County area ever since. I am based in Fullerton, CA where I live with my husband, two children, and four dogs.
I started showing Brittanys with my neighbor in 1997 at the age of 10 years old. I showed a variety of hunting breeds and started taking classes at Phoenix Field and Obedience Club with my first dog who was a German Shepherd I rescued from the Arizona Humane Society. My first dog had severe separation anxiety and food aggression and wasn't suited for the type of competition I was interested in doing, so in 2001 I ended up getting my first real competition dog, a Rottweiler who was imported from Belgium.
